We have started a Backpack Program at Lake Placid Elementary school. We supply fresh fruits for a weekly fruit bowl, giving any children access to a healthy snack throughout the day. We also provide enough food to carry 5 children through the weekend every Friday that school is in session. The program is in supplement to the existing Backpack program at the school which serves even more children. We accept food donations, we do not assume the children to cooking facilities but we do assume they have access to a microwave. Snacks and microwavable foods are included in the bags.
Whiteface Community UMC is proud to support a children’s club. For children from Kidnergarten to grade 5, they will participate in bible stories, crafts, games, singing and snacks. The Jay/Wilmington Ecumenical Food Pantry is a non-denominational food pantry located inside the Reuben Sanford building next to our church. Our church provides the space for the food shelf, though it is run independently of the church. The food shelf is coordinated by Don Morrison who can be contacted at 518-946-7192. The hours for the food shelf are on Thursday’s from 4PM to 6PM.
This summer we held our second car wash to benefit the Ecumenical Food Pantry. It is run by our church’s youth as a way to give back to the community.
